Radiation Bulletin: August 12th – 18th 2013

Summary

rabull-grayWith the leaks in Japan now stabilizing at a shrill scale, or until TEPCo is forced to divulge more due to media leaks, I’m gonna focus the international section on Germany as news there is that RWE, one of the biggest utilities announced plans to shut down 4 reactors, unhappily due to lack of profits, while the country’s other major company is threatening to pull up stakes and move to Turkey as the country continues with its push to hit a goal of 80% renewables by 2050.  Meanwhile, Kudankoolam is supposed to be up and running by the end of the month.

Of course, the big story of the week was the DC Appeals court (in the hands of republicans) gave Yucca Mountain a precarious foothold for a comeback as well as trounced Vermont’s legal rights to close Yankee.  Following these decisions there was a huge barrage of stories trumping the glories of Nevada as a site.  Am keeping the summaries short due to health issues…
