What is it?

The Atomic Age began with the first successful test of a nuclear weapon by the United State's Manhattan Project in July 1945. A month later, President Truman ordered the dropping of atomic bombs on Hiroshima and Nagasaki that acccording to US mythology ended World War II, but instead led to a nuclear arms race and the Cold War. Oliver Stone's "Untold History of the United States" documents that it was actually the Soviet Union's declaration of war on Japan on the same day (August 6th, 1945) the U.S. dropped the first atomic bomb on Hiroshima that led to Japan's surrender. It would be a combination of cold war propaganda and radioactive fallout that would launch the worldwide anti-nuclear movement. The Eisenhower Administration countered with the Atoms for Peace strategy to rationalize nuclear weapons testing, the massive nuclear weapons infrastructure, and growing concern about radiation and its impacts.

The use of radiation has been likened to the unleashing of the mythological Pandora's Box upon the Earth. Radiation is at the center of the debate over nuclear power, weapons, and the ethical dilemma facing humanity as science and technological development like the Green Revolution have led to overpopulation and resource depletion.

Due to the growing global economic pressures the famous Doomsday Clock developed by the Bulletin of Atomic Scientists is now at one of its most dangerous moments in history. Whether it is Nuclear Winter or radiation induced cancer caused by nuclear disasters like Three Mile Island, Chernobyl, and Fukushima are all part the nuclear debate of whether or not nuclear power and weapons should be banned.

The Military Industrial Complex, as described by President Eisenhower has played a central role in promoting the nuclear agenda, with its influence over the country's major media outlets and how the debate would be framed from its inception. Because of this, the American public has never truly understood this issue or the global opposition to it. Whether it's from the impacts on political discourse, health & safety, government censorship, economics, or ethics, the issue has been divided and conquered by an all too complicit 4th estate on the grounds of national security.

The United States is the only country to have ever used nuclear weapons on a foreign country. It has also unleashed radiation on Americans in the form of radiation from fallout as well as experiments on civilian and military personel, rationalizing this as part of the Cold War. It has repeatedly been shown that nuclear agenda included the lying to the US public about the dangers of radiation, and continues to do so up to the present. This presentation is a modest attempt at bringing the radiation issue into perspective and why the world should move to ban the use of fission for either nuclear power or weapons.

Radiation Sources

Radiation is everywhere, and an integral to our universe. However, there are limits to what levels of radiation that biological life can survive. For at least 2 billion years, the radiation levels on Earth were too extreme. Life as we know it today is here because background levels of radiation have dropped to a biological comfort zone.

All forms of radiation are dangerous to life. From Radon gasses, or 2nd hand cigarette smoke, to catastrophic releases of radiation from nuclear weapons or reactor incidents like Fukushima, there is no way to see it, smell it, or accurately tell what its impacts are on each of us. With the growing exploitation of manmade forms of radiation, the primary health concern about radiation comes from manmade uses. However, that is not to say that naturally occuring radiation is benign. Exposure to radiation has been increasing dramatically primarily via medical treatment in the form of x-rays, cat-scans and cancer therapies. However, there is a whole array of other sources as well. Both ionizing and non-ionizing forms of radiation need to be understood along with their impacts.

Radiation Impacts

Okay, this is the 64 dollar question, now isn't it! In 2005 the U.S. National Academy of Science stated that there was no safe level of radiation! About time. This statement completely contradicts the entire history of radiation safety protocols, and clearly legitimizes the safety concerns of activists for the last 50 years. But just what really are the impacts and is there some kind of a level playing field when it comes to who is the most at risk and from what?

In this section we are gonna walks around the block and show you some of the impacts and who have been hurt, or are the most likely to be hurt. Not everyone is impacted the same way from radiation. Is radiation from nuclear power is as dangerous as it is from Radon or medical procedures? Wrong question. This stuff isn't just about cancer either. We are barely starting to get to know the real impacts from minor to major health problems that can be transfered to the next generation.

Debate

The general public has the right to know and expect that it is being protected from the commericial use of radioactive materials. Yet, as presented in the historical section, that has not been the case in the past. Opponents of nuclear expansion have documented the historic misuse of radiation and its impacts to human health. America's use of nuclear power to generate electricity was essentially stopped because of both economic and health concerns. Attempts to restart the nuclear industry since 2005 have all but refused to fully educated or present the kind of health concerns after the accidents at Three Mile Island and Chernobyl that played a major role in the formation of a global campaign to block further expansion of commercial nuclear energy. However, the general public needs to know that when it comes to even the slightest chance there might be some kind of unbiased perspective on either side of this highly charged issue, there is much at stake, especially for those who claim that they have everything under control, just as the industry did prior to the disasterous accidents mentioned above.

The anti-nuclear movement is scorned and attacked as uninformed and unscientific about its safety concerns.

Protecting our health in a predatorial culture that sees poor health as a business opportunity is a huge challenge. Socializing the costs would mean ending the "Free Market's" exploitive agricultural practices that sell the public fake food. Even more troubling is the growing push to dramatically increase stressors, such as excessive competitive behavior, growing economic inequities, to extreme movies and games, that over time lead to adrenal fatigue and rapid deterioration of health. Nobody can wait for these kinds of cultural changes to take place in this dark age of misinformation.

The Nuclear Industry claims that radiation is good for us with its promotion of its theory of Hormesis, the alternative health community has countered with its own theories like the impacts of radiation and Free Radicals, to the Gerson model of healing.
